Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.

An anonymized string (or “hash”) created from your email address may be shared with the Gravatar service to check if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy. After your comment is approved, your profile picture becomes visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, avoid including embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the site may be able to download and extract location data from these images.

Cookies

  • If you leave a comment, you may opt-in to save your name, email address, and website in cookies. This is for convenience, so you don’t have to re-enter your details when you leave another comment. These cookies last for one year.

  • When you visit our login page, we set a temporary cookie to check if your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

  • Upon login, we set cookies to store your login info and screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days; screen options cookies last for one year. Selecting “Remember Me” extends login for two weeks. Logging out removes these cookies.

  • Editing or publishing an article sets an additional cookie in your browser that contains the post ID of the article you edited. It expires after one day.

Embedded Content from Other Websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content behaves exactly as if you visited the source website.

These external sites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that content — especially if you’re logged in to their platform.

Who We Share Your Data With

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How Long We Retain Your Data

  • Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely. This helps us recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically.

  • For registered users (if any), we store the personal information they provide in their profile. Users can view, edit, or delete their information at any time (except usernames). Website admins can also see and edit this information.

What Rights You Have Over Your Data

If you have an account or have left comments, you can request:

  • An exported file of the personal data we hold about you.

  • That we erase any personal data we hold about you.

This does not include data we are obliged to retain for administrative, legal, or security reasons.

Where Your Data Is Sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
